Project Optimism – Week 2

I just got back from dinner and grocery shopping. Once I unpacked and freshened up, went straight to the computer to sign in Hotmail. Still no news from the school which was supposed to get back to me today. No matter. Will give them till Wednesday. Then I’ll drop an email if there’s still no word. There’s also no news from any of the ten schools I’ve emailed my resume to just this morning.

See, it’s not THAT hard to find a job as a preschool teacher. It’s just that I’m being really really REALLY picky. I INSIST on taking up a part time role. Which means working four hours a day or so. Just so I can continue with my playdates which is easy money – in terms of how much I earn per hour and the job scope. Plus, don’t forget, there are free lifts and snacks and dinner too sometimes. All at forty dollars an hour, to read, write and paint with 3-6 year olds. Which is pretty easy stuff. I mean. There’s so much I don’t have to worry about – portfolios, classroom appearance, newsletters, lesson plans and all that. I actually get to focus on really teaching and having fun. All at the comfort of someone’s beautiful home. And, knowing I can start my day at 11am or later. Actually once, I got up at 1pm! Heh.

Okay. Hold on. What does all this have to do with Project Optimism? Well. I was hoping I could find a part time job on top of having play dates so I can earn more and be more stimulated and so I won’t have too much free time on my hands. As you all know, I’ve been feeling a little disheartened with the rejection and lack of favourable responses. In fact, if I don’t get anything by the end of the week, I’m thinking of putting job-hunting on hold. Maybe I’ll have lady luck on my side in March, when the school term ends and more teachers resign.

Anyway, back to optimism. Thing is, I’m feeling less disheartened and more hopeful because today, I had two mothers telling me they want to increase the number of days I have play dates with their children. I’ve calculated and this adds up to me being more occupied on Monday and having a reason to get out of bed on Friday. Plus, it also adds up to a total of about 280dollars more a month. That’s not AMAZING but at least now I know having play dates is good enough for the next few weeks/months. So it doesn’t really matter whether I get a job as quickly as I’d like to or not.

Thanks Al. And I haven’t forgotten about the sponsorship thing. I’ll try and sort that out soon. Thing is I have to use my mum’s credit card for online transactions.

Love the way you looking at the situation! I am experiencing similar job hunting experiences…I know it can get really disheartening at times! Your post makes me feel better about it, too :)

Until your dream job comes to pass, it sounds like you are hooked up! Hang in there. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that timing is critical. The best news comes not a minute too late but not a minute too early. Thanks for sharing the encouraging news!
